The location of Central Yha was perfect for exploring Melbourne. The hostel is close to the train station and there are plenty of free tram options nearby. We enjoyed strolling along the banks of the Yarra river, which was easily accessible from the hostel. The room we stayed in was very comfortable, with clean bedding and a soft, yet comfortable mattress. The bathroom and shower facilities were also very clean, and we appreciated the nice hot showers, especially during the winter days. The staff at Central Yha were incredibly friendly and helpful. We were impressed with the range of activities available, which made it easy to meet other travelers. if I were to visit Melbourne again for a short period of time, I would definitely consider staying at Central Yha.
While our stay at Central Yha was mostly positive, there were a couple of drawbacks. the noise from outside traffic on the main road could be a bit distracting, as the glass windows were not double glazed and did not close properly.

Lovely staff, location perfect, great showers and bathrooms....if only they took a policy to have more travellers and less permanents (see below).
Appalling room, driven by the guest selection. At a YHA, I expect to be able to walk in and place my bags somewhere without feeling guilty. The dorm room had stuff everywhere, a sign of "residents" making their mark on the property. The smell was unpleasant, and I knew it was going to be a long night. Luckily the window was open. All in all a stink pit. Room 102 FYI.

Very clean and modern inside, especialy bathrooms and toilets. I am older than most backpackers but for the younger guests there were lots of inexpensive things to get involved in. Great location for Southern Cross Station and Airport connections. Lots of info about tours of other areas.
Outside could do with a lick of paint, it contradicts the modern feel of the inside. TV and computers were in smallish kitchen area and if someone was cooking smelly or smoky food it was a bit offputting.

The rooms are basic, but in good condition and come with en suite toilets. The staff are friendly and provide excellent service. The location is convenient, as it is within the free tram zone, making it easy to explore the city.
Privacy can be compromised as some rooms lack curtains or blinds.

Clean bathroom, excellent location, good facilities, great balcony area to relax and read.
No dedicated TV room, my mattress was a bit old and used. But other than that, it was fine.

The breakfast was tasty, and the rooftop terrace had great views of the city at night. The location was perfect - close to the river and many attractions.
The bed in our room was so shaky that it woke us up each time one of us moved. There were not enough power sockets for everyone, and the Wi-Fi signal was not strong enough in our room.

Great location
Rooms are a bit plain. A sink would be nice, being able to brush your teeth without leaving the room and waking down the hall.
